St. Patrick's Day Coloring Pages and Crafts

St. Patrick's Day coloring pages and crafts help children understand this holiday.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated March 17 each year to honor Saint Patrick, who brought Christianity to Ireland. Legend says that Saint Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland, but that is not literally true. The reference more than likely refers to him driving away the pagan beliefs of the Irish people. The snake or serpent was worshiped by Pagans. Therefore, the legend of the snakes is considered to be symbolic, not actually true.

It is believed that Saint Patrick died on March 17 so that is why St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on that day. Since the St. Patrick's holiday started in Ireland, on this holiday all things Irish are celebrated like shamrocks, being lucky, and the colors green and gold.

It is traditional to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, to eat Irish food like corned beef and cabbage, and for children to celebrate with St. Patrick's Day crafts like coloring pages and other crafts.
